PADILLA PAVILLION

AN EXTENSION OF THE HOME

In collaboration with Nicolò Garonzi

A subtropical climate, surrounded by mountains and close to the lake of Cuitzeo, Michoacán

A family owned land located in the outskirts of the city of Morelia, México. The initial idea was to build a pavilion that could serve as a vacation home and rented for the rest of the year. We were inspired by the ecological richness of the place, we sought to utilize the stone and wood found on site.

The final result was a simple concrete structure that would hold a “wooden cube” containing basic service programs

The client was interested in building a space that were to be flexible in use. The request was for the pavilion to be dynamic when occupied for larger or smaller events, given the opportunity, it should become private or semi-private. Movable handcrafted wooden structures were chosen as “open walls” that will gently inundate the space with light and air. Alternating reflections, shadows and brightness.

A warm and wide restroom area. Red oak wooden furniture matches the handcrafted wooden walls with operable slits that control ventilation and light. There is a single wall that divides the space of the kitchen, dining room and restrooms.
